Reunion - Brighter Days

Taliesin had offered to take Mirrai to a tailor in town to get new clothes, and Sae had offered to help better equip her for the battles ahead (which, admittedly, was a pleasant surprise). Mirrai had not been in the mood to shop that morning, or at lunch, but now that it was after noon, she was feeling a little better about herself and the world and decided to take Taliesin up on his offer.

At the moment, she waited in the plaza outside the castle gate, studying the crowd from the shadow of the walls. A broad boulevard surrounded the castle, and encircling this plaza were a number of legislative buildings that supported the crown, including the royal bank of Astor. The people here were nobles and wealthy merchants, and Mirrai could not help but study their clothes and mannerisms, comparing to her distant home in Corisande.

Jaeger had thought hard about the idea of having Mirrai wearing the re-tailored and adjusted clothes of The Albian Prick Dimitrios, considering the probable family ties that had been revealed. So, he went with Taliesin (with his permission, as he didn't want to interrupt a Date) with those robes in hand, that he could still fashion some kind of... who knows, capelet or something for someone in the party. At the very least, they were fine robes and would probably sell for the price of a couple bottles of good liquor.

At the end of the day, however, he had observed how little he knew of Mirrai. She showed up suddenly and was nearly immediately swept up into the protective wingspan of the elf who was sometimes a giant owl, and had made no nuisance of herself. However, he didn't have any personal rapport with her, and clothes shopping episode would serve as a good backdrop for that. Unless he had other intentions, it would be in the company of Taliesin that Jaeger approached. He could undoubtedly be seen far sooner than she would be spotted, but he'd have no problem heading to her once seen, hand up in greeting. Possessing little in the way of clothing, he had no fancy outfit for this outing.

"Good afternoon, Mirrai." He looked up to the sky briefly, then nodded. "Yes, correct, afternoon. You seem to be in fair spirits."

Taliesin had finished some of his initial workings in the city and returned. He had already walked a good distance, but a little more walking wouldn't be any harm to him.

He saw the castle gate growing nearer and took note of Mirrai and Jaeger in their positions. He thought on all the things he had learned in such a short time, but decided to refrain from blurting out his experience.

He was only a hundred or so feet away when Jaeger spoke with Mirrai. He waited to call out until he was within 20 ft. "Hello again." He came to a stop not far from Mirrai.

Mirrai inclined her head to Jaeger, the first to approach. "Good afternoon, Jaeger. Do I? I hadn't realized... but I suppose today is somewhat better than yesterday. Less exciting, at least, after all the business with the king, the arcanist, and the Gunslingers. How are you?"

When Taliesin approached, she flashed a smile to him and inclined her head again in greeting.

"I'm well. Rested and full, what more can a person ask for?" Tali approached and Jaeger looked from Mirrai to him. "Ah, no smile for the big man, only the well-dressed one-- comparatively speaking, at least." He gave Tali a quick thumbs-up. "Along with the planned clothing search, do you two have other things to search for? Undoubtedly I'll be looking at any weaponry we come across for forging ideas, but considering I just handed over a magic weapon, something will have to be absolutely spectacular to earn my coin."

Taliesin gave a smile back in kind and looked to Jaeger. "I need to talk with Alastair about a book at some point. And at some point in the next few days I need to go hunting. But outside of shopping I have no major plans for today."

He could've elaborated more, but that was simple enough and allowed Mirrai to speak up more.

Jaeger earned a genuine smile that time. "Please accept my sincere apologies, Jaeger. I'll be sure to present you with a proper smile next time. And no... I don't believe I had any plans for the day beyond a shopping trip. I want to get myself properly attired and outfitted, then... perhaps a walk in the city, or another visit to the temple district. It may be worthwhile to check on the crew of the Stormlight as well... I'm not sure if any word has been sent to them of what's happened in the city."

He shared the smile with Mirrai, before beginning to move forward, lest someone was enjoying the shaded area overmuch. "Books... perhaps I will look for an intermediate volume of a magic encyclopedia. I believe I've gleaned all I could from the one Sae and I were sharing. The idea of using a bit more magic for the sake of it is appealing, but I can't concentrate on it battle, especially if struck with battle lust." Jaeger pursed his lips in thought. "Ah, to be able to apply magic to a weapon. Having the new axe will be an interesting experience, imperfect solution to magical weapon' as it is," he said with a chuckle.

Taliesin shifted position and walked alongside Mirrai as they all started to move on. "Well, perhaps you could get a tuning fork, some sheet music, and a book on music in general." He offered to Jaegar. "After all, you have been practicing on music off and on since Jennar left our group."

He kept his eyes on the path forward and made sure to direct their path as he knew exactly where they were heading. "I believe Sae has already sent word along to the Stormlight, but we can always check in on them."

"A musician, a budding arcanist, and a warrior in your own right," Mirrai said to Jaeger as she brushed one hand against Taliesin's. "You are a man of many talents, Jaeger. Is there a particular magical path that you're pursuing?"

"You know, I'd never considered picking up musical accessories. That's a great idea Taliesin, thank you. I may not be any use at reading sheet music right now, but I have a feeling I would be able to decipher that, before I could Runic."

Mirrai's question gave him pause. "Path...? Is the path of an orator not enough of a specification? I thought to use my voice to rouse the souls, within and without battle. Sae is an excellent speaker, but she's no storyteller. If my voice can inflame the passion of ingenuity, curiosity, and courage within my companions," he said while striking a dramatic pose, pounding his chest and looking up to the sky, "then I will do all I can to make that possible."

The moment passed, and he looked down to Mirrai. "Is there... more I should be thinking about? Perhaps I need to read that introductory tome yet another time..."

Taliesin nodded lightly at Jaegar's acknowledgement and reply. He stayed silent while Jaeger addressed Mirrai. Since the conversation shifted to more of a one on one he simply made sure to keep them on path while politely listening in silence.

Mirrai shrugged. "There are many ways to specialize in magic - illusions to distract, enchantments to enhance or harm, abjuration to heal or deflect, and so forth. I know a bit of magic myself, but mine has always been more for tracking prey than anything else. My father liked to hunt... I picked up what I learned from him."

"Is that so? Taliesin and I tend to do a lot of hunting, but I'd like to have you along, to see how your methods may differ or match my own." There were only so many ways one could track prey, but maybe Mirrai had another nugget of something Jaeger had never seen.

"Were you, by chance, also taught how to sing? I could always use another partner, and I know Tali would enjoy it."

Taliesin looked sideways at Jaeger. For a moment his offer was somewhat suspect. He spoke up only slightly changing the topic momentarily. "You could get a tribute to Kurnoth in your next hunt. That's part of the reason I plan to go on a hunt soon."

He didn't comment on the singing portion and left space for more conversation between Jaeger and Mirrai.
