It was definitely a joy to watch someone good at their craft performing. Porter could appreciate that while they remained quite literally stony-faced, appraising the crowd. They were closer now than previous, and hopefully the voices would be a bit more distinct. They let their attention drift briefly from the conversation between Tobias and the guard to try to pick out anything useful from the cries of crowd. (Perception dirty 20)

Neuks did her very best to just be extra muscle. She really wanted to flex those fake biceps a few times...

With a whistle and a motion, the Captain summoned a fresh faced- well, not quite fresh faced, more like red and sweaty faced- recruit.
"Jamison will show you through." With that, the Captain would return back to his duties.
Jamison, for his part, took the stairs at the gate house in a run and was in front of the party within seconds- looking slightly relieved to no longer be on the wall.
"Right-o! If you'll follow me, I'll take you through one of the smaller exits."

"Good man," Tobias said with gruff cheer, nodding to Jamison to lead the way. "You've got a good captain there. Good head on his shoulders. Listen well to his advice and you'll go far."
You really think he bought the story?
Doesn't matter. He knows better than to get involved, and that's the most important bit.

Pheuse gave a nod to the Captain upon hearing that they would have an escort through. He didn't expect to be seen, but it was an expected social queue that he would not miss.
Upon the arrival of Jamison he shifted to a ready posture. He remained well nested between his 'guards' and would immediately start moving once they did.

Porter's eyes lingered on those beyond the gate a moment longer before snapping back to the immediate as Jamison ran towards them. They shifted slightly, flanking Pheuse to provide him cover as they moved. "Please remain close, Sir." Porter used this shorter honorific this time, speaking loudly enough for Jamison to easily hear. "The crowd was yelling of shadow monsters. No doubt the Captain has looked into this...," with a glance at Jamison to see his reaction. "but it's no doubt volatile either way."
Maybe they'd get lucky, Porter hoped, and in his relief to be off the wall the young recruit would offer up a bit more.

Neuks kept her position near Pheuse, opting to let the smooth talkers lead the way.

Jamison gave Porter a crooked grin. "Oh, he'll likely look into it eventually. But that crowd gets riled up once or twice a week about something or another. Best thing to do is close the gates and sort it out once everyone has sobered up."
He'd lead them down the wall- clearly going to a different exit.

Tobias grunted as he moved to take point with Porter as they followed Jamison. "Hear they're shouting some nonsense about demons or monsters or some such? They ever complain about that nonsense before?"

Pheuse looked up to his companions that well flanked him. He took to walking quickly with his tiny legs while the others took longer strides. Finally, movement towards their goal. He remained silent while the others did guard things and being quite convincing in their roles. Or at least that is how he envisioned it with the current circumstance.

As they continued on, Porter's face regarded Jamison passively -- they were curious about the answer though they doubted the guard's ability to provide much more information. Their eyes drifted across the shadows, instead, and even the remote chance they might present a danger was more than Porter was willing to completely ignore. Who was to say shadows even cared about a door? (Perception 14)

Jamison scratched his head. ".... No. That's the first I've heard about 'demons'. But I've only been on the job a month or so, so I trust the captain knows what he's doing." He said cheerfully, stopping at piece of wall with a lock in it, pulling out a key and pushing away the climbing vines.

Tobias nodded and folded his arms, letting the man do his work. He was thinking about the demons, and the train, and the Mourning. And his sister. Would she be wrapped up in this, or would she be keeping her head down?

Pheuse listened to the guards answer and reached into his pocket to take hold of the crystal within. He would not be caught flat footed should the situation turn.
