The man narrowed his eyes at Tobias, but he did seem taken aback- he clearly hadn't seen whatever-the-fuck was going on with Tobias before.
"Look, I don't know who 'them' is, and frankly, I don't give a fuck about whatever freaky shit you've got going on. I've got my own problems with my sisters and I saw you lot following Ket and saying her name a whole hell of a lot. So, Keeper take you and your weird ass friends and your 'them'."

((Reaction: Insight 21))
Tobias, he's telling the truth, just look in his eyes! You're going to put us in more danger than he is!"
Tobias studied the man closely, the darkness around his eyes fading. "You're one of her's? Ket's, I mean."

Pheuse had turned his head to watch through the window. The interaction didn't seem to be going well at all at a glance. He hurried a sip of his chai with cinnamon and shifted in his position.
As he watched and focused on the ring and its location, something began to itch at the back of his mind. Ket wore her ring, and had used it, allegedly, to make herself appear different enough that the over eager guards wouldn't peg her for the girl they were looking for. She was on edge as a female, so this had to not be her. But ... Tobias had a visceral reaction to this person.
He was missing information. Most interesting of it being that someone with a magical ring to look like anyone chose not to wear it in the fashion that it was usable. He tried to glean some sort of insight, but being disconnected from the conversation left him in the dark (Insight 7 NAT 1).
This was somewhat frustrating, but at the same time tantalizing. An appearance so unremarkable and the ability to look like whomever, but the person chose unremarkable. He was now wishing he was part of the conversation to know more.

Neuks nibbled on her pizzelle, carefully watching Tobias and the man. "I don't think we should leave them outside alone much longer. I'm certain there is more to this than just Brynna and Ket. I feel like Tobias must have recognized him."

".... Sovereigns and six, you seriously expect me to answer any of your questions when you just held me at knife point?" He asked, arching an eyebrow at Tobias. "You've got balls bigger than a fucking ogre. Dagger take you and your friends." The man would snort after the Brelish curse, stepping backwards- not turning his back on Tobias- to go.

Porter nodded at Neuks's assertion. "That would explain quite a bit, Mistress Neuks. Perhaps it would be time to inquire further into the details of that." Porter glanced to Pheuse, noting the shift from the previous interaction with the stranger to a more contemplative manner. "It's possible our best course of action would be to try to determine where Brynna is being held, presuming you wish to probe this further. I could make inquiries if you wish it -- no need to trouble yourself."
If only they could remember more about the Brelish Recovery, Porter thought, that might offer a bit as well. A betrayal, a massacre, would surely have attracted someone's attention, but unfortunately politics always offered more to keep up with than anyone could hope to follow. Still, they let their mind drift a bit while they sat, thoughts turning to the past.

"If I hadn't forced your hand, would you have been honest?" Tobias challenged back, visibly forcing himself to dial back his aggression. Ellie was right - he was putting them at risk in more ways than one with this whole encounter.
"I could have followed you back to wherever you lived and ambushed you there," Tobias said, keeping his voice low so it did not travel past their conversation. "I could have forced you into a back alley for a more... unpleasant... conversation. We could have turned this into an altercation that might have brought greater suspicion on both of us."
He paused and took a breath, trying to stem the flood of adrenaline in his veins. "I have people to protect. Tell me you wouldn't have done the same to protect yours." His eyes narrowed slightly. "Soldier to soldier."

Seeing further issue through the window he hopped down and landed softly with his drink. He walked out the door and back around in an attempt to meet up with them at the window.
"Ellie, what are you doing?" He looked up to the towering forms above. "Because if this was Ket, then you are being very hostile for no clear reason. And if it isn't Ket ... the same applies and more. I was hoping to catch up so we could get Brynna out and safe, but Ket is too far for me to find now. Why don't you relax?" (Persuasion 8)
He reached up with the cup and offered it. "You were kept from getting your drink. Might I suggest trying this one? A cinnamon chai. Has a very welcoming taste and texture." He kept the drink offered, uncertain if Tobias would back away to ease the situation, nor knowing if the unremarkable man might accept or just leave.

((Reaction)) Just a moment before it's readily apparent that Pheuse is moving towards the still-potential altercation, Porter is on their feet and moving to try to keep pace with him.

Neuks watches Pheuse jump down, Porter jump up, and both of them head outside - and quickly finishes her pizzelle in two bites before scooping up her drink and following. "Come on, Chev! Let's go see what everyone is talking about." She smiled, but kept her eyes on Tobias and the man as she scooched past Tal Bot patrons towards the door.
Chev followed behind her, occasionally staring at any customers that looked as if they were annoyed by the fact a 7'5" firbolg was passing quickly through.

"Well, I guess you'll never know- because you opened our little conversation by shoving a dagger in my back. Tell me, do you think that continuing to threaten me with all the things you think you could have done is a good gambit?"
He snorted. "And I am not a soldier. You can tell, because I don't try and solve every problem with a sharp pointy things."
Pheuse approached then, offering him a drink. The man gave him a blank stare, shaking his head. "No. I'm no longer thirsty."
As Porter followed and Neuks made her way out as well, the man would turn his back to the group and leave- not running, but in no way intending to stay longer.

((Reaction)) As his companions tumbled out of the cafe, Tobias kept his eyes on the gentleman as he retreated (Insight: 20). The encounter had not gone according to plan - What plan?! - but that didn't mean he hadn't learned something. He just... wasn't sure what he had learned.
"...Tobias," he said quietly to Pheuse, rubbing at his left bracer. "My name is Tobias. Ellie is the Caretaker."

Pheuse replied softly "Well,Tobi- you've made the chances of me figuring out that ring almost zero." His eyes stayed forward on the ring giving some room before he tries something incredibly stupid.

Porter exited the Tal Bots with purpose, though that purpose was just to try to prevent Pheuse from being in any unfortunately situations. They moved very quickly, sometimes, despite their apparently stiff posture. It gave them the appearance of gliding.
They considered the back of the man as he departed, replaying the last moments of the conversation they'd walked into. Softly, in a voice less chiding than informative. "In the future, Master Tobias, I would recommend against calling a member of Brelish Recovery a soldier. Valkyries, perhaps, or Angels if you wish to flatter, but certainly not 'soldier'."
"Master Pheuse...?" Porter at him, or as close as they could manage while still keeping some attention on the departing figure. There was something about the tone of his voice that seemed to be the prelude to him doing something -- they almost though 'ill-advised'. They might have to consider allowing that term after all, if he was intending to put himself in too much risk deliberately. (Insight nat 20+2 -- why can't I roll that on npcs?!!)

"Tobias," Tobias corrected Pheuse, speaking a little more firmly. He raised a hand to massage his temples. "I'm... sorry. I don't think we should look for Ket. I think it'll end up creating more trouble than it's worth."
He turned to move away from the cafe, hesitated, and would accept the cup Pheuse offered him.
