After the ship is overturned by a massive creature known as a sea fury, the crew is rescued and brought to lifeboats through the collaborative action of the party. Hours after the Good Ship Deliverance capsizes, and a signal flare is shot into the air, the lifeboats are met by an Otonin merchant vessel. The party and the crew are brought aboard and sail to shore, but quickly learn that the port they had intended to dock in, port Nyanzaru, is not available. As information about nyanzaru's problems trickles through the party, they prepare to land at port Beluarian.
Upon docking and being greeted by the Commission, the Tabaxi rogue, called Bones, was accosted and brought into custody by the harbormaster and several dwarven guards. As the party investigated the confrontation, they learned quickly that they, too, were people of interest- for different reasons. A tense and awkward wagon ride took the group toward The Steading, a temporary guild hall in the process of being refitted into a fortification.
Meeting within the steading with one of the Commission's leaders, a black dragonborn named Norixius Torrin, the group was informed of the events that had taken place. Some months ago Nyanzaru was invaded by unknown Tabaxi forces who used black powder and an apparent knowledge of the city to cause enough shock and damage to force an evacuation.
Currently the status of the city is unknown, and with their individual credentials upon signing on with the commission, the party was enlisted to act as an investigation force. They were charged with getting to Nyanzaru and discover what had happened, find the commission wizard, Reginald Crosp's, workshop in order to activate an arcane communication device, and render aid in any way they could to those displaced from the city. Their mission set, they prepared for their individual roles, each with a mission of their own to pursue.

Before the meeting with the party, the tabaxi Bones was brought into the meeting room first to discuss the events at hand. Norixius Torrin asked her what she knew before informing her of the tabaxi attack. He warned her to be careful in the current political climate, and to find whoever was responsible for the attack- for her sake.
The Warforged Druid, Karn, took rounds around the steading, checking the fortifications. When drills and training runs completed beyond the walls, he met one of the senior trainers, a middle aged warrior named Archibald Graves. After a bit of one sided discussion, Karn managed to convince Graves to part with his shield with a bit of coin.
Bones found that the Nyanzaru blacksmith, Thorhac Redstone, was among those at the steading and sought him out. Despite his limited understanding of the details kept by the Commission, he confided in Bones that the situation at hand was dire. An enemy of hers, a thug by the name of Boscov Driscoll, was using the disaster as an opportunity to turn community opinion against tabaxi, and implicate her personally in the attack, as she was off island during the time. Thorhac urged her to be careful, and requested that if she came across his forge to search out his heirloom forge hammer called Brazenclout.
Verdi, the Ranger, was summoned by Norixius to discuss matters on the island. Something was happening to the south, causing the Dead and the wildlife to shift north into areas normally uninhabited, which distressed the efforts to evacuate and rally themselves. She was instructed to guard Bones, as some may want to attack her following the current opinion on tabaxi.
