"Oh, absolutely. One can, and perhaps you clearly do. In different ways, even- I can love Alistair's mind and how his upbringing and general way of approaching things informs his refusal to swear. I love you for your generally upbeat nature, your cooking, and your sometimes childlike wonder-- usually directed at Alistair. But it's as friends, and I can guess that without any consideration past that, Alistair would sort people out thus. It's not a bad way to self-realize the things you enjoy about people, this compartmentalizing. One could argue that it's a bit detached, but it's the way some people best function.
"So the question that matters is your response to his response. If he just can't yet imagine trying to put you in a special box, could you still feel the same way despite, or because of this?"

Konane just kind of blinked, unsure what Jaeger meant. She furrowed her brows, and shrugged. "I... don't know."

"Let me ask it another way," Jaeger offered. "Best case likely scenario, Alistair tells you he wants to give it the ol' Lyceum try, because you were able to help him put into words the way he feels. What happens then, what changes between you two?"

"I don't suppose with your background serving another person, you have much to pull from. Sae and Taliesin were the closest thing to a 'traditional' couple as our group had, but clearly that has fallen to the wayside. But from the way things are going, it seems that Sae and Ve'Ra are closer and closer, at least in the way that you'd like to mimic. So as far as 'what to do,' you can very well ask one of them. Or you can consult books of poetry and prose that detail friends becoming lovers and eventually promising to take care of each other until the each of their days. But each journey, no matter how ardorous, begins with steps-- a foot in front of the other. It's the little things that matter... remembering what type of tea your love enjoys, just how they like their meats cooked, the fit of their shirt around their neck, the way their voice changes when trying to be subtle about an inside joke."
Jaeger shrugged. "What is Alistair's favorite tea?"

"He likes coffee." She wrinkled her nose. "But will drink tea with lots of honey in it."
"That is, if we have honey. Or some sort of sugar. But usually he has it however I make it. He doesn't seem to be too picky about it, but I wish there was something I could get so he could make coffee as easily as I can make tea."

"He could very well make a device himself. Though he would need someone who's well versed in the ways of steeping teas and coffee to know how to make one. And thus, I've just given you something to do, to show you care. More than in the ways of this group's need to stay alive, or this mission in which we deal in gods and their ilk, but about him, personally. You spend time with him as he works, yes?"

"It shouldn't take the two of you long to find something to work on together. What would it take, thin cloth hanging from the lid, so the grains don't fall into the water? A separate compartment with filter holes? I'll leave the design and details to your imagination and his proficiency with the hammer."
Jaeger was quiet for a few seconds before sighing softly. "But... I want to reiterate something. To care is to open yourself up to hurt. The more you care, the more you can hurt. But I'm encouraged that you said that you'll never stop feeling the way you do. That's good, hold on to that no matter what. I'm hopeful to see what the two of you do together."

"I'm glad to hear that my words are good advice for you, a balm for that which ails your thoughts. My door's always open to you; I don't have much in the way of tinkering to do save the maintenance of my arms and instruments, but if you're curious, you're always welcome to sit in."
The nod Jaeger gave was a softly dismissive one; Konane was more than welcome to stay to watch him get back to aforementioned maintenance, but her words spoke of an end to the conversation, and he'd not hold her there longer than she wished to be.
